GHS Girls Powerlifting Team wins MHSAA 5A State Championship

The GHS Girls Powerlifting Team won the 5A State Championship this past Friday in Jackson. The is the first team championship in GHS history. GHS won the State Championship with a total of 56 points. Jim Hill High School finished 2nd with a team total of 40 points. Aviya Nettles was named to the Super 12, which is the top 12 lifters in the state. She also 4.0 GPA while carrying Dual Credit classes. Ladrika Jefferson broke the All-Time Bench Record for her 115 lb. weight class with a lift of 115 lbs. The team finished with five girls that won state championships in their weigh classes.

As for the team this year, they won the Regional and South State Championships leading up to the State Championship. As a team, they boast at 3.68 GPA, with 10 of the 12 girls having a 3.5 or better GPA. The following girls finished in the top 5 in their respective weight classes:

Ladrika Jefferson 1st place 97 lb. weight class
Skylar Gallavan 3rd place 97 lb. weight class
Aviya Nettles 1st place 105 lb. weight class
Ashiya Hicks 4th place 114 lb. weight class
Joy Mims 2nd place 123 lb. weight class
Aurionna Mendenhall 1st place 132 lb. weight class
Kianna High 1st place 148 lb. weight class
Jariah Davis 2nd place 165 lb. weight class
Olivia Rogers 3rd place 198 lb. weight class
Ya'Shineek Williams 1st place 220 lb. weight class
Destiny Costict 3rd place 242+ lb. weight class
